St Vincent week 1 (Fort, Botanical Gardens, Black Rave)

When not in hospital.. (90%of time) pre boatclub party

Incredible last few days!

Canons at Fort Charlotte
Seeing as the hospital placement didn't require much attendance so far, and an excuse in the form of “I need to leave the hospital now to meet my friends in KFC” makes a perfectly acceptable excuse to leave the hospital at 11am, we had plenty of time to get ourselves entertained.

We are slowly ticking off “to do things” in St Vincent. One of the recent trips included sightseeing Fort Charlotte – beautifully towering over the capital and the Caribbean Sea. In its glory in the year 1806 it included 30 canons and accommodated troops of 600 men. Well, it survived with only 5 canons and the 5 mighty visitors (us) seeing it.
The views from the fort
The views from the fort leave you speechless. There is the city in the valley, hills covered in rainforest, and one can see the few islands of the Grenadines from it too.

Another big attraction of Kingstown are the Botanical Gardens – which are apparently the oldest in the western hemisphere. Our guide “professor Sinclair” took us round the lush green scenery, and picked up any leaf, grass or flower for us to smell, lick, and taste. Imagine cinnamon, cloves, lemongrass, stairfruit, ylang ylang and many more! In case any of the plants were actually causing us upset stomachs he also gave us some laxative plant to take home. (still holding on to it).

Black Rave, St Vincent
As Carnival time is quick approaching there is lots of events held in the city building up to it. We cashed out 50eastern Caribbean dollars (12pounds each) to go to BLACK RAVE. Think a big arena, with the best carribean artists, think dancing /whining/grinding in the rain till the early hours of the morning, once again powered by Sunset rum. Easily the best parties/raves I've been to – especially with the regular 9 of us and some 3 other elective students from Cambridge. If Carlsberg did parties.. this still beats it!

P.S. I am slowly disappearing off the brown scale..
